“Cultivating Community, Empowering Growth”
It is an honor and a privilege to serve as President of the George Edgecomb Bar Association (GEBA). This groundbreaking organization has been a source of solace, inspiration, and belonging for me personally, and it continues to be a place where legal professionals can find purpose, community, and a shared commitment to justice.
GEBA was founded in the spirit of service, leadership, and justice, honoring the life and legacy of the late Honorable George E. Edgecomb. For decades, our association has been more than a professional network — it has been a home, a support system, and a source of empowerment for Black lawyers, judges, law students, and allies across Tampa Bay.
Our theme for this year, “Cultivating Community, Empowering Growth,” reflects our belief that connection is at the heart of progress. By building stronger relationships among ourselves, we equip one another to better serve our clients, advocate for justice, and uplift the communities we touch.
Throughout the year, GEBA will continue to offer programs that inform, inspire, and unite us — from continuing legal education and mentorship opportunities to service projects, community partnerships, and forums for meaningful dialogue. Our goal is to create spaces where every member feels seen, valued, and empowered to contribute.
Whether you are a long-standing member or learning about GEBA for the first time, I invite you to get involved: attend an event, mentor a student, collaborate on a service project, or share your ideas for how we can grow together.
Together, we will honor Judge Edgecomb’s legacy by fostering connection, advancing opportunity, and standing side by side in service to justice.
With gratitude and in community,
Chemere Ellis
